There are six Daughters of Charity who teach at the Saint Vincent de Paul Primary School in Kigali-Kicukiro, Rwanda. These Sisters have observed a great need to support students whose parents have separated or are in the process of separating. Many of these children live in extreme poverty and are dealing with loneliness and anxiety; these factors put them at risk. Some withdraw, some turn to drugs, and some drop out of school. The goal of this project is to help 26 children whose parents have separated or are going through separation. The Sisters will meet with these students and their parents quarterly. They will help these students talk through their struggles and process what has happened in a healthy way. The Sisters will provide close support and encouragement to help these students stay focused on their school studies and on God during this difficult time in their lives.
