The Providence Home for the mentally ill and destitute women around Uyo is seeing an increase in the mental health conditions of women, men, and young adults due to population increase. The home provides holistic are to serve the mentally ill, including psychiatric, medical, psychological, and spiritual care followed by rehabilitation services. There is no other group providing similar services in the area. Some of the home residents are picked up off the streets and others are transported to other health facilities as needed. The home had an old Toyota Sienna car which broke down in 2019. The residents need to use public transportation which has caused some delays in cases of emergencies. The project seeks to purchase a Toyota bus to provide the necessary care to the 17 resident women in the home and the 80 out-patients men and women between the ages of 17-25.
