MATERIALS TO BUILD 5 HOUSES AT EL PORVENIR

El Porvenir, BOLIVIA

Project Description

Located near the center of Bolivia, the neighborhood of “El Porvenir” is one of the poorest areas in Cochabamba. The community is comprised of 91 families, about 552 people struggling to afford even the most basic living necessities because their incomes are low and resources are scarce. When the Daughters of Charity arrived in 2004, the Sisters found the local people living in overcrowded and unhealthy conditions. This is not surprising, as over half of Bolivian families dwell in rustic huts that must accommodate up to six or even 10 people. IPS had been working with the Sisters since 2005 to help with the construction of suitable housing for disadvantaged families. This project realized the construction of an additional five houses, which became safe clean homes for 33 beneficiaries. Referring to the joy and gratitude of the families, a local Sister simply explained: “it is something that just cannot be described in words.”
