DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY
OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
INTERNATIONAL PROJECT SERVICES
“El Porvenir” is a neighborhood in Cochabamba, Bolivia laden with tremendous poverty. The community is comprised of ninety-one families, a total of 546 people. Adequate and safe housing was a prevalent issue. Since the local people survive on barely any income, unsanitary and overcrowded living conditions were quite common. In response, the Daughters of Charity planned to build 10 homes over a one-year period to help 10 underprivileged families. On October 30th, 2009, ten quality homes were completed, which provided comfortable and hygienic living conditions for 69 beneficiaries. The change has been significant, with residents enjoying the comfortable and safe housing and also experiencing a new found sense of self esteem.
