DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY
OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
INTERNATIONAL PROJECT SERVICES
Many children in Fortaleza suffer from attention problems, hyperactivity, aggressive behavior and delayed learning. Often these youngsters receive no educational support from their families. As firm believers that all children deserve the right to an education, the Daughters of Charity proposed a specialized program to reach children and adolescents with learning disabilities. They proposed a six-month course of special education to improve their reading and writing skills. After receiving support through IPS, the Saint Louise de Marillac School was able to provide stability for less fortunate children who are commonly victims of family disintegration and abandonment. Reading, writing and computer education workshops were successfully completed for approximately 70 children, which helped to prepare them for future work opportunities.
