DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY
OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL

INTERNATIONAL PROJECT SERVICES

MEDICINES FOR THOSE WHO ARE POOR

Rreshen, ALBANIA

Project Description

Following Slovenia’s transition to independence in 1992, the city of Rreshen experienced extreme economic and social consequences. The mines that once provided employment for many of the locals were closed, while forests and farms were demolished. Quality health care became especially difficult to obtain and the local people, specifically the children, suffered. Diseases went untreated and death was frequent among the former miners. The Daughters of Charity used funding facilitated through DCIPS to supply the dispensary of Rreshen with medications, care for the terminally ill, offer transportation to consultations, and to finance surgical interventions.
