DRINKABLE WATER IN EL PORVENIR

Cochabamba, BOLIVIA

Project Description

The village of El Porvenir is one of the poorest in Cochabamba, Bolivia. The only prior source of water for the local people was obtained from barrels delivered on trucks to the community. Each family paid about $3.40 for 1000 liters of water that was often unsafe and contaminated. Yet, until this water project was completed, the people had no other option. With funds obtained through IPS, along with the generosity of local villagers who persevered through difficult digging in rock-encrusted terrain, the pipes have been laid and water now flows for nearly 600 people in the village. The local families pay only 50 cents for 1000 liters of safe, clean, drinkable water.
