DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY
OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
INTERNATIONAL PROJECT SERVICES
Persons with disabilities in the Loei Province of Thailand often have additional health problems, are under educated, struggle with unemployment, and are frequently excluded from community activities. In response, the Daughters of Charity established their Community Based Rehabilitation Program for Persons with Special Needs. This program has been very successful in helping those with disabilities become advocates for their health and well-being, specifically by forming Disabled People’s Organizations (or DPOs) in 15 subdistricts of the Province. The Sisters are now focusing their efforts on improving the quality of these DPOs. The Sisters’ three-year plan includes awareness raising, seminars, workshops, a child/youth development program, and other various activities to achieve sustainable inclusive development for persons with disabilities.
