SUPPORT FOR POOR PARENTS TO MANUFACTURE COSMETICS + CLEANING PRODUCTS FOR INCOME GENERATION

Circasia, COLOMBIA

Project Description

Families in Circasia residing in “shanty towns” live in extreme poverty and are among the most marginalized in the area. Parents are typically only able to find sporadic and informal work. Moreover, many mothers are unable to work traditional jobs since they have the responsibility to watch their children during the day. Consequently, families in this area endure precarious living conditions and are often forced to share homes with multiple other people. In many cases, basic needs of the family are not met. SENA, a government organization, offers training for local parents to learn how to manufacture cosmetics and cleaning products, to help them become self-sufficient. This project will help 40 families put into practice this specialized training by offering an appropriate work space to conduct their manufacturing enterprises. This leased space will be enable beneficiaries to produce items for sale like hair gel, nail polish remover, shampoo, and moisturizer. The project will provide participants with materials for production and cover needed renovations including installing a kitchenette, restroom, and purchase of furniture like metal lockers, tables, and chairs.
