INSTALLATION OF HEATING SYSTEM FOR MOTHER TERESA SCHOOL

Pereyra, ARGENTINA

Project Description

Since 1918, the Daughters of Charity have been providing education to the children of poor laborers in Pereyra, Argentina. Initially, the Sisters taught skills training to young girls and boarded them due to lack of transportation in the isolated surroundings. Today, the Sisters provide kindergarten, primary and secondary classes to over 800 students at the Daughters of Charity Maria Theresa School. The Sisters need to replace the school’s old heating system with a new efficient system due to pipelines that threaten gas leakage and fire. The drafty atmosphere of high ceilings and open spaces of the century old school, have contributed to illness and the inability to concentrate on lessons during the cold winter months. It is nearly impossible to hold classes in the building under these circumstances. Eighty percent (80%) of the community is extremely poor and do what little they can through fundraising to help the Sisters. Project support is needed to help the Sisters purchase and install a new heating system. The Maria Theresa School serves over 800 students, 100 teachers and 3200 parents and guardians.
