NUTRITION AND MEDICINE FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV AIDS

Abuja, NIGERIA

Project Description

St. Vincent’s Hospital in Abuja offers comprehensive HIV/AIDS testing, treatment, and related services at its DREAM Center providing HIV counseling and testing, antiretroviral therapy, prevention-of-mother-to-child-transmission of HIV (PMTCT), adherence counseling, and provision of anti-tuberculosis services, and associated medications. By providing patients with appropriate food and opportunistic infection drugs, health care is enhanced and HIV specific drugs can be more effective. The nutrition and medicines provided through DREAM and this project will save the lives of some of Nigeria’s most vulnerable children and adults, many who are anemic and malnourished. The DREAM Center is currently the only facility in the area that offers this holistic and specialized approach and this project will allow for the purchase and distribution food supplements, therapeutic food, and medications.
