DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY
OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
INTERNATIONAL PROJECT SERVICES
St. Catherine Laboure School located in Masanga, Tanzania offers education for girls from surrounding villages. The school was opened 7 years ago and girls from the first grade have reached the end of their primary school studies. The school started with 35 children and has multiplied by ten to a current 340 students in 9 classes. All children receive breakfast and lunch at the school -- helpful for the many children who come from poor families. The Sisters were given permission to temporarily use extra rooms at the school for the housing of students, but this arrangement is inadequate for long term plans. The government made it clear that they must construct permanent housing facilities. Since the school has no bus for the transporting of students, the dormitory will help girls who live far away and must walk a very long way to school on a daily basis. Although having boarders at the school will eventually help with the financial health of the school, financial assistance is needed to construct the dormitories.
