DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY
OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
INTERNATIONAL PROJECT SERVICES
The Daughters of Charity offer basic needs services for migrants at the Pisiga (Bolivia)/ Cholchane (Chile) border crossing. Harsh weather conditions, a lack of basic essentials, and the danger of human trafficking contribute to very difficult and severe at-risk situations for people traveling across this border. Unfortunately, although human trafficking is a very real and serious risk for people making this trip over the border, the only available police are 2 kilometers away. The Sisters need a vehicle to safely transport migrant individuals and families. Because the crossing is located in the mountains, many of the migrants develop altitude sickness, pneumonia, dehydration, and other major health issues. This new vehicle will help the Sisters carry out more comprehensive destination plans for the migrants, prevent kidnapping and human trafficking, and offer an opportunity to provide improved service delivery at the shelter.
