NEW MEDICAL FREEZER FOR THE DREAM PROGRAM AT ST. VINCENT'S HOSPITAL

Dschang, CAMEROON

Project Description

Adjacent to the Daughters of Charity St. Vincent de Paul Hospital in Dschang, is their DREAM Center, that provides testing, treatment and follow-up for people living with HIV/AIDS. The DREAM Center is operated by the sisters with support from the Catholic lay organization the Community of Sant’Egidio (Italy). While the program is open to the entire population, there is a particular focus on the mother-child pair and prevention of the vertical transmission of HIV to unborn children. The active DREAM caseload numbers 1,800 people who take antiretroviral medication and undergo regular testing to manage their appropriate individual treatments. To ensure reliable and efficient testing for patients being treated and those being diagnosed at DREAM, a new Thermo Scientific Fisher 600 rack freezer must to be purchased to store test samples at the proper temperature and eliminate any risk of unreliable test results. This new freezer will enhance the laboratory’s ability to work more efficiently, reduce the need for repeat testing and waste, and minimize expense. Once obtained, the freezer will help all medical staff provide the best care for DREAM clients.
