CONSTRUCTION IMPROVEMENTS HOME FOR ELDERLY

Santiago, CHILE

Project Description

The Daughters of Charity have been at the Home in Macul Metropolitan Region since 1970, when two other Homes for elderly closed their doors. The facilities currently care for about 72 abandoned and ill elderly persons. Six Daughters of Charity are committed to the program, which benefits persons who are moderately to severely dependent by providing meals, care, medicine, housing and therapies. The majority are women and the average age is 86. The current dormitories are very small with only a clinic cot and beside table and divided by a panel. This makes it very difficult for caregivers to do their work in the resident rooms, as most of these senior citizens are bedridden. The clients are referred from other Daughter of Charity programs as well as the Municipality of Macul or the National Senior Citizens Services government program. The expansion project will meet the goal of providing these elderly persons with dignity and a better quality of life in their final years.
